Khutbat al Haajah (first part)

Innal hamdulillahi nahmaduhu wa nasta’eenu wa nastughfiruhu, wa na’uudhu billaahi min shuruuri anfusinaa wa sayi’aati a’maalinaa. Man yahdihil-laahu falaa muDilla lahu wa man yuDlil falaa haadiya lahu. Wa laa ilaha illa Allaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rusuluhu (Salla allahu alaihi wa ala aalihi wa sahbihi was salaam).

English Meaning: All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah the Most High from the evils of our own selves and from our wicked deeds. Whomever Allah guides cannot be misguided, and whomever Allah He leaves astray, cannot be guided. I testify that there is no true god worthy of being worshipped except Allah alone without any partner or associate, I further testify that Muhammad (salla allahu alaihi wa salaam) is His true slave and Messenger. May Allah salah and Salaam be also granted to the prophet's pure family and to all of his noble companions.

Question:

What is the correct way of memorizing the Qur’aan and the Hadeeths?

Answer:

As for memorizing the Qur’aan, then the people differ, from the people there are those that are able to memorize a page, and from them there are those that can memorize both sides of a page; and from them there are those that are not able to memorize except half a page or less (than that), so everyone according to their ability.

From the affairs that which aid in memorizing the Qur’aan are repetition, revision and standing in the night prayer with it (i.e. that which you have memorized) if you are able to perform the night prayer. For indeed Allaah, the One free from all imperfections and the Most High says:

Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allâh). [Soorah Al-Muzzammil 73:6]

And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salât (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Qur'an in the prayer), as an additional prayer (Tahajjud optional prayer Nawâfil) for you (O Muhammad sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). [Soorah Al-Isra 17:79]

Likewise taking from the Mashaykh and memorizing at their hands. If you do not find them, then I advise you to stick to the cassettes of the proficient reciters, those whom recite with a sound recitation, and not those who exaggerate as ‘Abdul Baasit does; rather, the recitation of just balanced sound reciters and not those that (recite in a manner) that was disliked by some of the Salaf.

As for the memorization of Hadeeth, then they are little easier if it is done without the Asaaneed (chains of narration), so it is possible that you memorize a Hadeeth in a day or two days or three days then act upon this hadeeth, for indeed this aids in making the Hadeeth firmly grounded, then studying with the brothers and lots of repetition.

Hadeeth Number 1: Actions Depend Upon Their Intentions

You can listen to the following recording for memorization of the current hadith being covered in our Literature Circle Class inshaAllah. Listen carefully for the recitor speaks quickly for those who like to work at a fast pace. For those who don't alhamdulillah you can pause the selection at will. However, continuous repitition is recommended. If we are able, each student will be asked to recite from what they remember even if it is only the english version inshaAllah. May Allah aide you and all of us to be of those whose memory sustains and increases ameen. Enjoy!

Hadith Number One

Actions Depend Upon Their Intention

On the authority of the chief of the believers, Abu Hafs ' Umar ibn Al-Khattab (radi allahu anhu), who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (salla allahu alaihi wa salaam) saying: "The reward of actions depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. Thus, he whose migration was for Allah and His Messenger, his migration was for Allah and his Messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to take a women in marriage, his migration was for that which he migrated." (Related by Bukharee and Muslim)

Conditions of Hijaab (Outside/In Public View)

Notes Taken from the lecture

1. Should be covered with her entire body, apart from what has been excluded by the shari'ah

2. That it (the clothing) should not be an adornment in an of itself. (The khimaar, Jilbaab, niqaab ect...)

3. The covering should be thick and not transparent. (Ex: Thin overgarments that in the light you can see the size of her bones.)

4. That the clothing should be light, loose, wide so it does not describe any part of the body. (The purpose is to prevent temptation)

5. The clothing should not be perfumed with bukhoor or fragrance. (The one who does this is an adultress/Prostitute) Listen for further details about lotions, soaps, and deodorants inshaAllah.

6. The clothing should not resemble the clothing of men. (Get rid of the boxer shorts ladies if you have them!)

7. The clothing of the women should not resemble or imitate the kaafir women

8. The clothing should not be of fame, and vanity.

The purpose for Jilbaab is not for zinaa (2nd type). For if it were for zinaa it would be defeating the purpose of covering your zinaa. Ex: If you have a Jilbaab that is decorative or attractive then you have defeated the purpose of Jilbaab. The Hijaab, when applied to the women means that it is a mind set! Jilbaab should not be thought of as apparell, it is a state of mind.

Please find out more by listening to the lecture inshaAllah. Don't be of those who cause harm, FITNAH for the men!
